The Preamble is based on the Objective Resolution, drafted and moved by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on December 13, 1946, and unanimously adopted by the Constituent Assembly in 1947.
The original Constitution of India was entirely handwritten. The beautiful decorative border of the Preamble page was designed and illuminated by the famous painter Beohar Rammanohar Sinha of Jabalpur, under the guidance of Nandalal Bose.
The Preamble has been amended only once in history. In 1976, during the Emergency, the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act added three new words: Socialist, Secular, and Integrity.
